Sisterhood Maker's Night

In celebration of International Women's Day on March 6, Berene Campbell of Happy Sew Lucky came up with an idea to bring women together in two ways: By organizing a swap to create collective quilt blocks made by circles of women for each other, by each other, and in doing so, collecting funds for a charity that supports women that are living in poverty or at risk situations. Aptly named the “Sisterhood Swap”.

And so we are running a Maker's Night for anyone who would like to make the Sisterhood block (purchased through Berene's Etsy shop) and wants some help with their foundation paper piecing. Ali will walk you through your first block, and have some tips for chain piecing the others.

Instructor — Ali Harle

Skill level — beginner friendly

When — Thursday March 28 from 6 — 8 pm

Requirements —

  • purchase the pattern here
  • bring printed pattern and copies of templates for E, F, G & H

  • a 5" square dress fabric (or more if you want to work on more blocks)
  • we will provide Kona solids for the faces and arms of your blocks

About the instructor — Ali is a modern quilter who likes to play with colour and shapes in fresh and exciting ways. She loves curves and making a visual impact with her quilts. When she's not in search of great tacos and other tasty treats, Ali will be at her sewing machine experimenting with new techniques. She's patient while helping people feel at ease with their sewing and isn't hung up on perfection. She knows tricks to help you fudge mistakes on those tough projects (she has been doing this on her own for a while now). Ali's lessons are sure to include lots of laughter, creativity and probably some foodie asides.
