HST Design & Sew


This class will expand on skills you learned in making your first quilt. You will learn several techniques for sewing half square triangles (HST) and nesting seams. You will also design you own quilt layout, and determine how many blocks you need to make for the desired size.

Prerequisites — Learn to Quilt, or completion of at least one simple quilt

Dates — Wednesday May 30, June 6, 13 from 1 - 3:30

Supply List (students save 10% on class supplies) —

  • two each 5", 10 3/4" and 15" squares of fabric in contrasting colours (light/dark)
  • colored pencils or markers for first class
  • fabric for quilt (requirements will vary depending on layout, needed for second class)
  • square ruler (between 8" and 12" recommended)
  • marking tools
  • School of Sewing book (optional, but highly recommended)

We also recommend you have the basic tools at home (rotary cutter, ruler, mat) for completing homework.

About the instructor — Katy is a self taught quilter and sewer who loves to try new projects. She has a love of fabrics and thinks that being able to make something from fabric is the best thing ever. Katy works at Mad About Patchwork and loves sharing her passion with others.
