Charm Square Pillows

These charm square pillows are a quick gift idea to use one (or more!) of those charm packs you’ve been saving. Ours are made with Up Parasol by Heather Bailey. The pillow on the left uses 16 print charms and 16 background charms (I used Essex in Linen) cut with aWhirligig template. Piece the prints and backgrounds together into 16 blocks to make an 18″ square pillow top. Sandwich the top with batting and muslin and quilt as desired. I used 2 coordinating fat quarters to make a simple envelope style back to finish the pillow.

The second pillow (on the right) is made with the L’il Twister template. Sew together 13 print squares and 12 background squares in a 25-patch piece alternating prints with background. Cut 4 – 3 1/2″ wide border strips from a coordinating print and attach borders to each side of the 25-patch. Use the L’il Twister according to directions to cut 36 – 3 1/2″ squares for the pillow. Then sew them back together in rows to make an 18″ square pillow top. Sandwich with batting and muslin and quilt as desired. This pillow is also finished with an envelope style back.

Choose whichever method you like best and make two the same, or mix it up like we did with one of each. Either way, you can spend an afternoon sewing and have a lovely gift ready for giving!

The kit to make the two pillows shown is now available in the shop.
