Garment Sewing - The Tamarack Jacket - A Quilted jacket

You’ve seen them all over the internet and now is your chance to make your very own Tamarack Jacket in time for Spring! This fun class is a great entry point into garment making. You can make this jacket from a single fabric or from patchwork panels. I even made one from an old quilt! It is a great way to bring a quilt a second life. To ensure a successful outcome we will be adding patch pockets, and not welt pockets, during the class. Please arrive to the class with: 1) your size determined, 2) your pattern pieces copied onto Pattern Ease (or something similar),  3) your material quilted, and with 4) 9 metres of bias binding (5 will be used on the outside of the jacket and 4 on the interior).

Sunday Feb 1 & 22
10:30AM – 3:30pm

Each attendee is required to purchase their own original copy of the pattern
there will be an option to  purchase an A0 Print of the pattern pieces on top of the class fee

Please note:
a) that the instructions call for 5 yards of 2” binding. Unfortunately, this amount does not include binding for interior seams. Additionally, 2” is not wide enough. So, please bring 9 METRES of 2.5” bias binding.
b) if your pattern includes a dart, please do not cut this prior to quilting as the instructions recommend. We will be handling the dart a bit differently.
  c) if you intend to add length to the arms or body pieces, or if you would like to add a hood or collar, you will need more quilted material than is listed on the pattern. Additionally, if you have a directional fabric, you may want to quilt up more than the amount listed to give yourself maximum flexibility.

Supplies: -Tamarack Jacket Pattern
-Quilted Fabric/Pieces
– the amount required will be determined by the size of the jacket you will be making.  - 9 meters of 2.5” wide bias binding.
- enough fabric to line pockets (a fat quarter is perfect!)
- thread
- scissors
- scotch tape
- rulers
- hand sewing needle
- rotary cutter. We will be (essentially) cutting through a quilt. Now is the time to treat
yourself to a new blade! You won’t regret it. The 28 mm cutters are the best for this
project.
- sewing machine in good working order.
- bring ALL your machine feet with you to class.
- and most importantly, bring your SENSE OF ADVENTURE!
I can not wait to show you how to make the jacket! This class should come with a label:
WARNING ADDICTIVE!
Please note that while this is a great garment-making entry point for seasoned quilters,
this class would not be appropriate for a new sewer.
