More pillow ideas, this time using jelly roll strips. Ours are made with the richly coloured Pretty Potent by Anna Maria Horner. The pillow on the left uses 9 strips from the roll (2 must be the same). Cut the strips into 2 1/2 squares and arrange in a pleasing manner – we’ve done a simple diagonal layout with 81 squares to make the 18″ square pillow top. Sandwich the top with batting and muslin and quilt as desired. Finished with an envelope style back . If you wanted to dress it up a bit more you could add piping around the edge, or make a covered zipper back.
The second pillow (on the right) is made with the Hex N More ruler. It uses only 6 strips cut into 4 1/2″ half hexagons using the ruler (9 from each strip). The half hexagons are arranged in Jaybird Quilt’s Northern Lights pattern. Sandwich with batting and muslin and quilt as desired. Also finished with an envelope style back.
Choose whichever method you like best and make two the same, or mix it up like we did with one of each. Either way, you can spend another afternoon sewing and have another lovely gift ready for giving!
The kit to make the two pillows shown is now available in the shop.
