Kantha Quilted Jacket Class

Transform a beautiful vintage Kantha quilt—or your own pre-quilted fabric—into a stunning handmade jacket that's as unique as you are. In this workshop, you'll create a wearable work of art using either the Alston Jacket by Helen's Closet or the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio, two timeless patterns that beautifully showcase quilted textiles.

No two Kantha quilts are alike, making every finished jacket completely original. Prefer a more modern look? You're welcome to bring your own pre-quilted fabric instead of a Kantha quilt. We'll help you plan your layout to make the most of your fabric, whether you're highlighting vintage stitching or a favorite quilted print.

Throughout the class you'll learn techniques specific to sewing with quilted fabrics, including pattern placement, cutting for visual impact, binding or finishing seams (as appropriate to your chosen pattern), and achieving a beautifully professional finish.

Whether your style is relaxed and casual or classic and tailored, you'll leave with a jacket that's sure to become a wardrobe favorite.

Fabric Options

Students may choose either:

  • A vintage Kantha quilt, or
  • Pre-quilted fabric suitable for outerwear.

If using a Kantha quilt, we'll discuss fabric placement before cutting to preserve the most beautiful stitched motifs and maximize the character of your jacket.
